People have over the years developed and made up many myths against circumcision that have been hammered into the brains by the writings of religious fanatics and medical monopolists. These people either hate circumcision for the religous affilation or they hate circumcision for its potential to protect the circumcised person from a number of diseases and physical and mental problems.

Challenging the Myths against circumcision - Get a clear circumcised picture

Myths 1

Circumcision is done for religious and cultural purposes.

This is a gross misinterpretion of the religious and cultural system. In no religion Circumcision is compulsory by the religion itself, it is made compulsory for its health purposes. Eg. in Christanity it is believed that Christ was circumcised but the Christians do not undergo circumcision, so it is not imposed religiously, but since Christ underwent circumcision, it has to have some health benefits. Also in Muslims even though they mostly undergo circumcision it is not mentioned in the Quran. So here also it is done for medical reasons. Even in the Jews it is done for medical reasons. Most of the religious leaders know that circumcision is done for medical reasons that is the reason why one will find that they are not so keen to implement it by religious diktat.

Myth 2

Circumcision does not have any health benefits.

It is known to all and it is proved scientifically that circumcision can prevent many sexually transmitted diseases including HIV, but people with scientific reasoning find it very difficult to digest how this is possible that by cutting a piece of tissue on the penis or the clitoris that it can give protection from sexually transmitted diseases?

Each and every uncircumcised person is carrying the scientific answer to the above question. If you are uncircumcised and you look at the head of penis in male and look at the clitoris in female what do you see? You will see a mass of muscle that does not have a skin. Now let us go back to your school times where you learnt about human skin. You must have learned that the skin of human beings protects the muscles and inner organs of the human body. Remember that? Now without the skin the head of the penis in male and the clitoris is unprotected.

Some people will argue that prepuce ie. the foreskin of the head of the penis in male and the hood of the clitoris protects the head of the penis and the clitoris respectively, that is another myth that we will look into after this.

If you had studied the lessons is biology in your school you would have also learned that it is the skin that has the sense of touch, the muscle tissue even though is filled with sensitive nerve endings will not be able to generate the sense of touch. It is the skin that acts as the interface between the physical touch and the signals of touch that are carried to the brain.

In the absence of skin the uncircumcised people do not experience the sense of touch or they do not get sexually stimulated by sensual touching, so how do the uncircumcised people get aroused sexually? That is a painful subject because during sexual activity the underdeveloped muscle of the head of the penis and the underdeveloped clitoris undergoes severe trauma (reason explained in later paragraph) This trauma causes the very sensitive nerve endings to send signals of pain to the brain, which is also send throught the nerves that get aroused by sexual stimulation. It is this pain that is considered by the brains of the uncircumcised person as sexual stimulation. No person in the world can experience real sexual stimualtion without circumcision without the growth of a proper skin on the underdeveloped muscle structure of the head of the penis and the clitoris.

Let us go back to your biology lesson, where you would not have missed to learn that it is the skin of the body that keeps the organs and muscles in shape. So now without the skin the underdeveloped head of the penis and the underdeveloped clitoris cannot maintain their shape and that means that they get squashed, squeezed, blotched and undergo severe trauma (referred above) during sexual activity. It is the pain that is caused by this trauma that is regarded as sexual stimulation by uncircumcised people. This loss of shape adversely affects the sexual activity but it also makes the very sensitive nerve endings in the muscle to undergo severe trauma which can result in loss of sensation even loss of interest in sexual activity.

If you remember biology also teaches you that it is the skin that has the capacity to control the temperature of the body. Now in the absence of skin the underdeveloped muscle of the head of the penis in male and the underdeveloped clitoris in female has no way to control the temperature increase that is caused during sexual activity and the inside and the outer surface gets burnt by the high temperature that is generated. This causes blacking of the skin on the outside but it causes severe burn inside, which if happens on continual basis my lead to severe irritiation and end up in penal or clitoral cancer. But unfortuately the pain caused by this burning of muscle inside and outside is also regarded as sexual stimualation by uncircumcised people.

You must have also been taught in biology that the muscle absorbs more water and liquid substances than the skin and also very fast. So it will not be wrong to say that the uncircumcised underdeveloped head of the penis in men and the underdeveloped clitoris in female absorbs your urine everyday. It also absorbs the body fluids during sexual activity becoming bloated and enlarged and becoming a turn off during sexual activity. When it absorbs all these liquids it also absorbs the microorganisms with them. This is how microorganisms enter the body through the underdeveloped head of the penis in male and through the underdeveloped clitoris in female. I think that this should get all those scientifically inclined people a satisfying scientific answer that they can confirm using their school biology books, that circumcision definitely has health benefits.

Myth 3

The prepuce ie. the foreskin of the head of the penis in male and the hood of the clitoris in female protects the head of the penis and clitoris respecitively.

The prepuce does not give any protection to the underdeveloped head of the penis in male and the underdeveloped clitoris in female. Since the nerve endings on the head of the penis and the clitoris are not attached to the prepuce it cannot send either signals of heat control or touch to the brain. It does not keep the head of the penis and the clitoris in shape. During sexual activity it just slides of and submits the head of the penis and the clitoris to the forces of nature making both these parts to undergo severe trauma and injury in the process of sexual acitivty.

Myth 4

The prepuce is filled with sensitive nerve endings.

There are no sensitive nerve endings related to sexual activity in the prepuce. The underside of the prepuce is filled with glands producing smegma. One would wonder why so many glands are there to produce smegma. There are so many glands because all the smegma produced by the glands are absorbed by the underdeveloped head of the penis and the underdeveloped clitoris into the body along with the microorganisms that are present in them.

There is no place of sensitive nerve endings on the prepuce. Even the nerves present on the outer side of the prepuce acts as a diversion and also stopper of blood during sexual activity. How? Well the blood vessels carrying the blood, used for erection in male and sexual satisfaction in female, and for the blood vessels in the prepuce are the same. So when blood is pumped with pressure to the head of the penis and the clitoris at the time of sexual activity, some of it it is also diverted to the prepuce. Now the veins and arteries in the prepuce are not designed to withstand that much pressure and sometimes they burst and you get a swelling in the prepuce. At other times they send signals to the brain to stop excess blood supply and guess what? The brain stops the supply and the result is that the erection in the penis will be gone and so will the sexual satisfaction in female. This is how the prepuce becomes a real turn off during sexual activity.

Myth 5

Circumcision is a risky procedure and is done with a blade.

Circumcision is a safe procedure and is done with modern instruments and can also become a bloodless and painless minor surgical procedure.

In male the use of rings stops the blood flow to the prepuce ie the forskin of the penis, within minutes the foreskin loses sensation and this foreskin can be cut easily and without any pain or loss of blood. In female the use of phimosis clamp ensures a bloodless and painless minor surgical procedure. The phimosis clamp has a flat surface on the underside and a almost triangle shaped opening on the upper side. This clamp is inserted between the clitoris and the hood. This gathers the hood of the clitoris in the triangle opening. The clamp is then tightened and left for some time. The tightening of the clamp stops the blood supply to the hood and within a few movements the hood completely loses sensation. The entire hood inside the triangle opening is cut without any pain or loss of blood.

Myth 6

Circumcision is a complicated procedure and has to be done in a hospital.

For those who have the fear of being seen in the hospital can easily do the procedure of circumcision at home by a qualified doctor or surgeon. The procedure is very easy and there is no complications before, during or after circumcision.

Myth 7

Circumcision should be done during infancy.

It is easy to do circumcision during infancy as the nerves of the child are not fully developed and the sense of touch and sense of pain are relatively not very developed as in grown up people. But since the process of anesthesia is available and circumcision can be done in a bloodless and painless manner it can be done at any age.

Myth 8

Circumcision will make the penis smaller in male

This is a complete misconception because the prepuce or the forskin of the penis does not add to the size of the penis. It is just a piece of unwanted tissue that is so useless that many animals like the monkey are born circumcised ie. that monkeys do not have a prepuce and it is well known that monkeys are immune to HIV. Another proof that circumcision gives protection from HIV.

Myth 9

Circumcision will alter sexual pleasure, rather decrease it.

As mentioned above the uncircumcised person has no sense of touch on the head of the penis in male and on the clitoris in female, hence no amount of stimulation can give any kind of sexual stimulation without the skin. It is only after circumcision that the male or female for the first time experiences real sexual stimulation. In the uncircumcised person pain caused by trauma on the head of the penis in male and trauma caused on the clitoris is considered as sexual stimulation.

Myth 10

A portion of the head of the penis in male and the clitoris in female is also cut during circumcision.

Only the prepuce ie the foreskin of the head of the penis in male and the hood of the clitoris in female is removed. The head of the penis and the clitoris are not at all touched.

Myth 11

One can clean under the prepuce with soap and water to keep it clean.

Cleaning with soap and water under the prepuce will cause great damage on the skinless muscle of the underdeveloped head of the penis in male and the underdeveloped clitoris in female. Exposing the bare muscle to harsh soap solution or other chemicals or medicines can cause adverse affects and reactions. Further the muscle tissue will also absorb the soap liquid into the body causing more harm.

Myth 12

It takes a long time to recover from circumcision.

It takes just 2-3 days to recover from circumcision if it is done on a child in elders it may take upto a week. Children recover very fast and their wounds also heal up faster than adults. In case of female circumcision the female can walk out of the place were the operation is performed and recovers in 2-3 days.

Myth 13

People should wait for their children to grow up to the age of 18 so that they can decide if the children want to do circumcision or not.

This is an argument that is not used when giving vaccination to the child. In vaccination the parents are allowing the actual injection of microorganisms into the body of the child violating the body of the child. at that time this question is not asked. Now without circumcision the boy or girl will never be able to experience sexual pleasure and will also be exposed to a number of diseases due to the fact that the underdeveloped head of the penis in male and the underdeveloped clitoris in female absorbs liquids around it. If the parents delay in making the decision of circumcision for their child, the child will have to suffer more pain and suffering till he /she reaches the age of 18 and in todays scenario with diseases like HIV reaching the age of 18 without getting infected would itself be a challenge.

Myth 14

Old age people need not undergo circumcision.

If the person wants to save his or her body from infection of diseases then he or she should undergo circumcision, age is not a criteria but protection is the criteria.

Myth 15

Men and women who are already infected with HIV need not undergo circumcision.

Men and women who are infected with HIV should immedicately undergo circumcision as circumcision immedicately stops the cycle of infection and stablises the CD4 count without any drugs. Circumcision also prevents the entry of AIDS category microorganisms into the body thereby protecting the HIV infected person from getting AIDS or other related infections.

Myth 16

Only certain strains of HIV can be prevented by circumcision.

The person undergoing circumcision gets protection from all strains of HIV and also from new and developing HIV strains.

Myth 17

Female circumcision has no medical value.

Female circumcision has the same benefits as male circumcision as it helps develop the underdeveloped clitoris whereby the skin is covered with a skin and the lady will experience sexual pleasure for the first time as mentioned above. Female circumcision also protects the lady from all the diseases that male circumcision protects does in male.

Myth 18

Circumcision adversely effects the partner who has not undergone circumcision.

Circumcision makes the person safer to have sexual contact with as their body is safe from the invasion of microorganisms and they do not carry microorganisms with them on the head of the penis in male or the clitoris in female or under their respective prepuce. This stops the partner who is uncircumcised from getting infected with any of the disease causing microorganisms. The partner who has undergone circumcision will remain protected from the microorganisms carried by the uncircumcised partner.

But the uncircumcised partner will not be able to get sexual pleasure as he or she will not have a skin to cover the underdeveloped head of the penis in male or the underdeveloped clitoris in female. It would be ideal if both partners are circumcision to get maximum pleasure and safety for both partners during sexual activity.

Myth 19

Circumcision is a very risky procedure and can cause injury on the head of the penis in male and the clitoris in female.

Using the mordern methods like the ring for male circumcision and the phimosis clamp for female circumcision the head of the penis and the clitoris are completely protected and untouched.

Myth 20

The cleanliness and hygiene in a uncircumcised person and a circumcised person are the same.

Due to the presence of the foreskin in male and the hood in female microorganisms get accumulated in the space between the head of the penis in male and the forskin and likewise under the hood and the clitoris in female leading production of bad odor. Uncircumcised people will find it compelling to take a bath everyday to get rid of the smell but circumcised people there is almost no smell that comes from the circumcised head of the penis or the circumcised clitoris.

Myth 21

Blanket implementation of circumcision is not required.

It is only after circumcision that a male or female can really experience sexual pleasure. Without the skin the head of the penis in male and the clitoris in female undergoes great trauma and is open for infection from microorganisms. With all these health problems and many more that are discussed above, if the heath authorities still consider that blanket implementation of circumcision is not required then they should definitely want to intentially put those who are uncircumcised to undergo all the sufferings as discussed above. People should also make a decision of getting their children circumcised seeing the benefits of circumcision and open the eyes of the medical organisations and medical authorities regarding the error in their decision of not implementing circumcision for everyone.

Myth 22

Women are against Female circumcision.

Women who are aware of the benefits of Female circumcision get even their children circumcised. But now a days the women are misinformed regarding female circumcision as it is compared to Female Genital Mutilation (FGM). Both are two different processes and are done for different purposes. Women should get educated to understand the difference between FGM and Female circumcision. Or they will have to spend their whole life never being able to experience what sexual arousal really is. Because in the absence of skin the only sexual pleasure they can experience is pain.

Myth 23

Women are against male circumcision.

The women who know the advantages of male circumcision themselves bring their male children and sometimes even their partners for circumcision, it is only certain protesters against circumcision that spread the word that women are against circumcision.

Myth 24

Circumcision gives only 60% protection against HIV.

The fact is HIV gives 100% protection against HIV because after the underdeveloped head of the penis in male and the underdeveloped clitoris in female become developed and are covered with skin there is no way that the virions of HIV can enter into the human body and take control of the CD4 cells.

Myth 25

Circumcised people get infected with HIV.

This is completely false as circumcised people cannot get infected with HIV because the main source of the entry of the HIV is eliminated in circumcised people. Once people get circumcised they become immune to HIV infection. Just as the monkeys who are born circumcised and are known to be immune to HIV.

There are many more myths of circumcision that are spread by the protesters of circumcision. If you come accross more myths please mail them to us and we will update the same in this space.
